Everyone loves Memorial Day Weekend for a few reasons. 1) Obviously as Americans we love what it stands for and celebrating the sacrifices of the brave men and women who have fought to keep us safe. 2) The long 3 day weekend is a good excuse to get together with family and friends. And 3) It’s the first holiday that kicks off the unofficial start of summer!
All of that means tons of BBQs, gatherings, and fun. If you’re a guest at theses events, surely you won’t want to show up empty handed. If you’re the host, you’re already stressing over your menu. However, this is a time for fun, not stress, so I’ve rounded up some festive Memorial Day Weekend Recipes for you all:
I don’t know about you guys, but I love a good taco salad. This simple Taco Salad Flag recipe by Family Fresh Meals is the perfect thing to kick off your party or BBQ. It’s so festive and your guests or other party goers will surely marvel in your creativity. Also, I think if you just warmed this up, melted the cheese and added in olives and jalapeños it could easily be an American Flag nacho dish, which I obviously love the idea of as well.
Let’s be real things taste better when they look gorgeous and this sangria recipe looks amazing. It’s 10am as I write this and I’m already thinking about whipping this up later and starting the #MDW celebration a week early! This Red, White, & Blue Sangria recipe by Recipe Girl is the perfect sip for any party. Even if your not much of a cocktail maker you can throw this together with ease. I can’t get over how cute the pineapple stars are! My tip – make this in a large punch bowl and keep plenty of fruit prepared in the fridge for a second (and third) batch because this drink will absolutely be a hit.
I love the idea of serving pulled pork dishes at parties or BBQs because you can toss everything in a slow cooker, go about your party prepping, and in the end you have a delicious dish. Sliders are great option because they’re small and versatile – are they an app or are they a BBQ side? Who know. Who cares. They’re delicious, I’ll have another! This Pulled Pork Sider recipe created by What’s Gabby Cooking couldn’t be easier to follow, so if you’re cooking impaired or just need a tasty effortless option, try these little guys!
No summer BBQ is complete without a pasta salad! Seriously, have you ever been to a BBQ where there was no pasta salad, I sure haven’t. Pasta salads have sure come a long way. When I was little I hated the basic macaroni salad that seemed to be on the table at every Summer party. Now, people have gotten so creative with dressings and ingredients that I totally look forward to a good pasta salad side. This Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad by Life In The Lofthouse sounds and looks amazing. I’m a big bacon gal and who doesn’t love ranch y’all! I think this pasta would a be killer dish at any BBQ.
Dessert is probably my favorite course of any meal. I’m a sweets eater, always have been unfortunately for my jeans, always will be. Also, when attending a party as a guest I usually bring a dessert because I find them easiest to make an transport to the party. I think cheesecake is the perfect summer treat because it’s served cool, it’s creaminess feels indulgent, and fresh fruit (especially summer berries) take it to another level. These Patriotic Cheesecake Cupcakes that I featured on the blog in the past really do hit the spot and the festive colors will brighten up your dessert table. Also, it doesn’t get any easier than a store bought-cookie as the crust! I always get compliments when I bring these, even if I already ate half of them on the way to the party!
Have a great #MDW everyone! Have fun responsibly, enjoy the people around you, and eat great food. But please please please remember the reason for this holiday!
Thank you to all the brave men and women that have fought and are fighting to protect our freedom and country. Thank you to all the families who share their loved ones with our country. On Memorial Day we will be celebrating and toasting your bravery, courage, and sacrifices.
